Features:
Overview: For vehicles that don't have a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) wire, the JVC KD-NX500 Navigation unit will not operate properly. This KV-PG1 Speed Pulse Generator is designed to detect the speed of the vehicle by the rotation of the tires, and send the speed pulse to the connected Navigation system.
Magnetizing The Tire: One of the vehicle's rear tires will need to be magnetized by using the supplied magnet. Half of the circumference of the tire tread is to be magnetized, while the other half is to be demagnetized. This is done by dividing the tire into 2 sections, and rubbing the tread with the magnetizing side of the magnet on one section and with the demagnetizing side of the magnet on the other section. When the vehicle is in motion and the tire rotates, the sensor will pick up the alternating magnetic fields coming from the tire as a signal it can send to the navigation unit as a speed pulse.
Sensor Installation: The sensor unit should be mounted in the trunk or near the rear wheel well of the vehicle. It should be kept away from the vehicle's battery, wiring, or electronic equipment such as changers, amplifiers, or speakers. The sensor unit picks up the magnetic field from the magnetized side of the tire as it rotates, creating a speed pulse.
Wiring: The KV-PG1 Speed Pulse Generator comes with a 3-wire harness that plugs into the speed sensor. The 20' fused power wire connects to the accessory terminal of the vehicle's fuse block, and the 39" ground wire is connected directly to the metallic body or chassis of the vehicle. The 39" pink speed pulse signal lead connects to the speed signal wire supplied with the KD-NX500 Navigation unit (both wires have mating bullet connectors).
